INNOVATION PARKS AS CATALYSTS OF URBAN DEVELOPMENT

Abstract

The article examines the theoretical and methodological foundations as well as the practical aspects of the impact of innovation parks on urban development processes in the context of contemporary transformations. The relevance of the study is driven by accelerated urbanization, the growing role of cities in the global economy, and the need to identify innovative mechanisms for urban management. The research is based on a comprehensive systemic approach that considers urban space as a complex socio-economic system. The methodological framework of the study incorporates concepts from institutional economics, the theory of complex adaptive systems, and urban economics. The study highlights the bidirectional relationship between urban development and innovation parks, wherein cities provide intellectual and infrastructural support, while parks enhance their innovation potential. Within the framework of urban metabolism theory, innovation parks facilitate technology transfer, adaptation of best practices, intellectual capital growth, and the formation of an innovation-oriented culture. The necessity of employing proactive urban development tools to prevent technological lag due to rapid technological progress is emphasized. Innovation parks are identified as possessing the necessary instruments to support proactive urban development. The role of innovation parks in the urban development mechanism is analyzed. The study substantiates the need to establish a system for monitoring innovation activity, implement digital platforms for managerial decision-making, and develop coordination structures within this mechanism. The proposed conceptual mechanism for urban development constitutes a multi-level system encompassing R&D centers, business incubators, accelerators, and other innovation institutions. These structures contribute to enhancing urban economic competitiveness, improving residents' quality of life, and ensuring effective coordination and support of innovation processes in urban environments.
