The article analyzes the experience of sustainable development of European cities and makes a substantiated proposal for the selection of progressive European practices that have the potential to adapt to the Ukrainian context. It is determined that the basis of modern European strategies for sustainable urban development is several interrelated concepts: the concept of the fifteen-minute city, the paradigm of sustainable mobility, the concept of transit-oriented development, the concept of the circular city, the concept of smart cities, the concept of resilient cities, the concept of a pervasive eco-city. The typological features of modern municipal practices for sustainable development of European cities are highlighted. A conceptual model of bilateral exchange of experience in the field of sustainable urban development between Ukraine and European cities is proposed. It has been established that the European practice of monitoring through a system of four complementary tools provides an example of a comprehensive multi-faceted assessment for adoption by the Ukrainian system of municipal statistics. The strategic goals of European cities in the field of climate transformation are determined and the practical experience of European cities is analyzed. It is concluded that the ambitious climate neutrality strategy is implemented through a combination of technological, spatial, institutional and social innovations. A detailed content description of the bilateral exchange of experience in the main areas of urban governance provides for the identification of eight key areas: energy transformation, active mobility, circular economy, nature-based solutions, digitalization of governance, inclusive approaches, anti-crisis management and strategic planning of reconstruction. It is concluded that the methodological basis for an equal partnership is the concept of bilateral exchange of experience between Ukraine and European cities.
