Abstract

The article examines the role of modern technologies in enhancing the competitiveness of food industry products. It emphasizes the importance of digital transformation in increasing production efficiency, ensuring product quality and safety, and meeting dynamic consumer demands. The paper outlines key technological trends, including the adoption of Industry 4.0 principles, such as the Internet of Things, digital twins, automation, and smart energy solutions. These innovations enable food enterprises to transform into intelligent production systems, optimize resource use, and improve flexibility in response to market changes. Special attention is paid to the Ukrainian context, where food processing remains one of the key sectors of the national economy. The study provides macroeconomic data on the food industry’s share in GDP and exports and illustrates the sector’s growing role amid wartime economic challenges. Examples of leading Ukrainian companies implementing technological solutions are presented, showing both the potential and limitations of digital adoption. The article also identifies major barriers hindering digital transformation, including high implementation costs, lack of qualified personnel, limited state support, and energy supply challenges. The research highlights that overcoming these obstacles requires a systemic approach involving gradual technology integration at the enterprise level, external partnerships, and stronger public-private cooperation. The availability of digital infrastructure and support programs plays a significant role in accelerating innovation processes and reducing disparities between large and small enterprises. Therefore, coordinated actions by business, government, and academia are essential to achieving effective and inclusive digital modernization in the food sector. In conclusion, the paper suggests practical recommendations for improving the competitiveness of food industry enterprises through strategic investments in technology and the development of institutional and human capacity. Digitalization is positioned as a key driver for sustainable growth, international market integration, and the long-term success of the agri-food sector.
